Phone and tablet access
Use your journal in a browser while Historicle runs on your computer.
Last updated: October 2026
Before you start
Keep Historicle running and your computer awake. Connect both devices to the same trusted local network. One API key is included free; Pro allows additional keys for independent device sessions.
Start the server
- Open Historicle Settings → Server.
- Start the Local Server and note the displayed address and port.
- Create an API key with the permissions you need. Copy it while it is displayed; the full key is only shown at creation.
- Scan the pairing QR code on your phone or tablet, or open the server's LAN address in a browser. A newly created key can be included in the pairing QR code.
- Follow the certificate prompt, then sign in with the key if requested.
HTTPS uses a self-signed certificate by default. Confirm that the
address matches the computer and port shown in Historicle before
trusting it. The certificate download is available at /certificate on your local server; trust settings vary by device.
Addresses and sessions
On the host computer, the default address is https://localhost:11435. On another device, use the LAN address shown in Settings, with your
configured port. localhost on a phone means the phone itself.
Each key supports one active browser session. Signing in with the same key elsewhere replaces the previous session. With Pro, create a separate key for each browser or device you want to keep signed in. Cookies are tied to the address: changing between a hostname, IP address, and localhost may require another sign-in.
Connection problems
- Check that the computer is awake and the Local Server is running.
- Check Wi-Fi, guest-network isolation, firewall access, and whether the computer's LAN address changed.
- If you are signed out, use a valid key; another sign-in with the same key may have replaced the session.
- If a key is lost, delete it and create a replacement. Existing sessions created from the deleted key are invalidated.
Do not expose the local server directly to the public internet. To connect while away, use a VPN into your home network. Historicle does not provide a hosted relay.
